As artificial intelligence develops faster than regulation can keep pace, what should maritime businesses be thinking about when adopting new technology?
Intent Communications and Consulting CEO and Founder Namrata Nadkarni puts the question to Arsenio Dominguez, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), asking what guidance he would give the industry as it embraces AI while the regulatory landscape continues to evolve.
His message is clear: technology should not be introduced simply for the sake of being ready. The industry should focus on technologies that offer genuine improvements to efficiency and business performance while supporting the people who ultimately use them, including seafarers.
As Namrata puts it: don’t be swayed by the marketing, look for the impact.
The role of AI, its practical value to maritime businesses, and how the industry can adopt it responsibly will be at the heart of Intent’s Demystifying AI in Maritime Summit on 6th October at the Chicago Booth Conference Centre in London.
