The maritime industry is sitting on a goldmine of untapped data – but all too often, much of it is left unused. Breaking down silos, improving trust, and updating legacy systems are key steps towards real data-driven decision making. But the question remains, what’s holding maritime back from making that leap?

In our recent poll, we asked: What’s holding back maritime from fully embracing data-driven decision making?

Some 55% of respondents said the most significant barrier is an “old system mentality.”

That mindset challenge can’t be ignored. The technology exists — but the shift to trust data, share it across silos, and modernise legacy systems still takes time.

And the urgency is growing. The WTO now predicts AI could boost global trade by up to 40% by 2040. If maritime can harness its data, it won’t just keep pace it can lead.
