While the maritime industry continues to make progress on diversity, there remains more to be done – which is why we were so proud to support Lloyd’s Register Foundation on the production of its recent ‘All hands on deck’ report exploring the role of diversity and inclusion in securing the future of our industry; produced as part of their ‘Rewriting Women into Maritime History’ initiative.

Recommendations from the report include:

Improve visibility of women
Embrace and promote allyship
Create mentorship programs
Adopt gender policies with measurable goals
Prepare women for the board
Use inclusive language for recruitment
Tackle unconscious bias
Measure representation throughout the organisation
Harness innovation to promote inclusion
Broaden what it means to be a leader
Shake off old traditions
Design with inclusivity in mind
