Container Management magazine features a fascinating chat with our client Sandra Welch, CEO of Seafarers Hospital Society (SHS), who shared her journey from her native Johannesburg to settling in the UK and her work in the maritime sector.
Here are some highlights:
– As a child Sandra always wanted to be a teacher, playing “school” with her teddies and even her dog. She did become a music teacher, which fueled her creative side.
– She plays classical guitar, piano, and is also a percussionist. She shared a hilarious story about a cymbal mishap during a university performance!
– After teaching and working in international development, she transitioned to the maritime sector, where she gained a new perspective on the lives of seafarers.
– Sandra’s favourite part of her job is connecting with the people they help and witnessing the impact their work has on lives. She shared a deeply moving story about a seafarer who was wrongfully imprisoned and later reunited with his family thanks to SHS’s assistance.
It’s inspiring to hear about Sandra’s diverse experiences and her dedication to making a difference in the lives of seafarers.
